DANCING FOR PARKINSON'S

Our Dancing for PD class is for adults with Parkinson's Disease, MS, and other neurological dysfunctions and their caregivers or family member. It is a gentle movement class for all abilities - even those in wheelchairs with very limited abilities.  The rhythmic nature of music “provides an external source for meter, like a pulse” that can help activate areas of the brain responsible for movement. It offers people a chance to think differently about their movements, to control their movements, and to do so in a social environment. “Dancing has the benefits of exercise plus the added layers of social interaction, emotional experience, creativity, imagination, and music,” says David Leventhal, director of the Mark Morris Dance Group's Dance for PD program in New York.

This class is excellent for people with Parkinson's Disease, MS, Down's Syndrome, Epilepsy, TBI, Stroke, and other neurological movement dysfunctions.

DANCEABILITY

Our DanceAbility class is for children of all ages to develop social skills, enhance neural connections, overcome fear and anxiety, make connections with their peers, have a sense of accomplishment, and have fun!

In fact, a recent pilot study confirmed that dance movement classes in children on the spectrum showed significant improvements in language, visual responses, fear and nervousness, emotional response, non-verbal communication, general impression, imitation, object use, and verbal communication.

Among the parents, they have reported significant changes to interpersonal relationships, life activities, and social participation.

Neurotypical siblings are welcome and encouraged to attend.
